With a pending tropical storm approaching on Saturday, event organizers successfully rescheduled most events to Friday evening
While the weather outside is frightful, Canterbury Days continued to be delightful.
While dark, foreboding clouds slowly encroached upon the landscape, the people of Canterbury partied the night away on Friday, Sept. 15,
Canterbury Days had been planned since June of this year, said Lakeland Ridges mayor Tanya Cloutier.
The festivities were initially planned to take place on both Friday, Sept 15 and Saturday, Sept 16, at the Canterbury Community Centre, but all activities and vendors were rescheduled to Friday due to the expected arrival of Hurricane Lee early Saturday morning.
The Canterbury Recreation Committee made the decision earlier that week, Which sadly led to the cancellation of the event’s parade, which was to be themed “Battle of The Bands,” a community yard sale, and magician Nathaniel Rankin.
Luckily, most events were successfully rescheduled or planned for Friday and went off without a hitch.
Many vendors, like HaliMac Axe Throwing, Little Village Country Creations, and local 2SLGBTQIA+ organization The Rainbow Crosswalk, attended the Friday event.
Also present was Dragon Mire Farm Petting Zoo, which brought a parrot, hedgehogs, rabbits, and more to the event.
Catering was provided by the town, with hamburgers and hotdogs being put on sale alongside a free corn boil.
Line dancing was offered to those in attendance, with audience members encouraged to participate and dance to songs such as “Banjo Boogie.”
As the night progressed, a bonfire was lit, and musicians Jason Shaw, Tasha Bedford-Doherty, and Trevor Lawson entertained the crowd.
The music continued throughout the evening until fireworks were set off and ended the night.
