Annual summer celebration coming Aug. 13-20
Festival on the Bend is returning to Nackawic from Aug. 13-20. The festival, originally called Community Days, has been a tradition in the town for nearly 50 years. Celebrations kick off on Aug. 13 at the Nackawic Arena with the Nackawic car show from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Ultimate Championship Wrestling at 6 p.m.
The festivities continue with a family scavenger hunt on Aug. 14 at 1 p.m. at the gazebo and a parent and child paint night at the Lions Club on Aug. 15 at 6:30 p.m. There will also be bingo at the Lions Club on Aug. 16 at 7 p.m.
Pageants are returning to the Festival on the Bend this summer. The Little Miss Nackawic pageant takes place on Aug. 17 at 7 p.m., and the Miss Nackawic pageant is scheduled for Aug. 19 at 7 p.m.
Saturday, Aug. 20 is the festival’s final and busiest day. Activities include the street parade, vendors, bouncy castles, llamas, a magician, live music, and more. As always, the festival will conclude with a fireworks finale.
Festival on the Bend committee member Donna Gagnon said she’s excited about this year’s festivities.
“This year, it’s a few more days. Last year we were only entitled to one,” said Gagnon. “I’m excited to have it back.”
This year’s lineup includes two new events, the wrestling event and the family scavenger hunt.
This summer’s festival and street parade theme is “Nackawic goes Disney.” Gagnon said the festival committee chose this theme by popular demand.
“We’ve been asked by people before a few times to do Disney, so we thought this year would be a good year to do it,” she said.
Gagnon hopes festival attendees will enjoy the event.
“We hope to see everybody out and about,” said Gagnon.
