Fire quickly contained; no injuries reported
The Centreville Fire Department and RCMP responded to a fire at an NB Housing seniors’ complex on Monday afternoon, June 8.
Centreville Fire Chief Ritchie Shaw said the fire started in the bedroom of the apartment.
Shaw said the fire was in an “oxygen-starved” state, creating significant smoke, when department members arrived on scene.
Firefighters were able to access the apartment through the window and quickly contain the fire.
Shaw shared that the damage was primarily contained to that specific apartment, though others may have suffered “mild” smoke damage.
The fire is believed to have been electrical in nature. Shaw said residents would not be allowed to return until an electrician has cleared the building.
Eldon Nye said the fire started quickly.

“I just went out to light the BBQ,” said Nye. When he went back into the apartment, there was smoke in his bedroom. Nye called it a “scary experience.”
Chief Shaw said that, thankfully, there were no injuries to any of the residents, including pets.
The River Valley Sun has contacted NB Housing, which owns the unit, and is awaiting a response.
